Hydrocotyle tripartita Japan

Hydrocotyle tripartita 'Japan' is a vigorous, clover-leafed stem plant that rapidly spreads as a carpet when grown in sufficient light. Each node produces a characteristic three-lobed bright green leaf on a thin vertical stem. Under high light and CO2 it forms a lush, densely layered foreground-to-midground carpet. Without CO2 it grows slower but still spreads. One of the most popular carpet plants in Dutch and Nature aquascaping, offering an attractive contrast to fine-leaved plants.

Plant individual stems into substrate 1–2 cm apart. Trim regularly to maintain carpet density. High light and CO2 greatly accelerate spread. Fertilise with comprehensive liquid fertiliser. Suitable for foreground to midground depending on tank height.
