Hydrocotyle verticillata
Also known as: Whorled Pennywort, Shield Pennywort
Origin: North America
Hydrocotyle verticillata is a North American pennywort with a unique leaf arrangement — the round, peltate leaves attach centrally to upright stems in a whorled, parasol-like fashion that is immediately recognisable and architecturally distinctive. The tissue culture form ensures a clean, algae and snail-free introduction. Growth is moderate and the plant adapts to a wide range of conditions, making it suitable for both low-tech and high-tech setups. Under medium light it grows reasonably compact and upright; trimming the stems encourages a bushier, denser display. It works particularly well as a midground accent plant between broad-leaved and fine-leaved species. Also suitable for paludarium edges and shallow water features.
Light: Low–medium CO2: Not required Fertilisation: Basic macro and micro dosing Placement: Midground accent Propagation: Stem cuttings; spreads via runners
