Hygrophila corymbosa 'Compact'
Origin: Southeast Asia
Hygrophila corymbosa 'Compact' is a specially selected compact cultivar of the popular Giant Hygro, bred to remain noticeably shorter and bushier than the standard species while retaining the same exceptional hardiness and adaptability. It produces densely packed whorls of lush green leaves along upright stems, creating a full, structured midground presence in aquariums where the normal 50–80 cm height of the standard variety would be overwhelming. Its low-light tolerance and adaptability to a wide range of water parameters make it one of the most accessible live plants for beginners. An excellent choice for community tanks and lower-tech planted setups.
Plant in substrate in groups of 3–5 stems for the best visual impact. Grows well under low to medium light without CO2. Trim regularly to maintain the desired compact height and encourage bushy side-branching. Propagate by trimming the top portion and replanting the cutting. Supplement with liquid fertilizer or root tabs for faster, more vibrant growth. Tolerant of a broad pH and hardness range.
