Hygrophila corymbosa 'Kompakt'
Also known as: Compact Temple Plant, Dwarf Temple Plant
Origin: Southeast Asia (cultivar)
Hygrophila corymbosa 'Kompakt' is a cultivated dwarf form of the popular Temple Plant, selected for its markedly shorter internodes and smaller leaves compared to the standard species. This makes it far more practical for medium-sized aquariums where the full-sized form quickly outgrows its space. It retains all the hardiness and easy-care characteristics of H. corymbosa, tolerating low light, variable pH, and a wide temperature range. Growth is slower than the standard form, reducing trimming frequency and making maintenance more manageable. It is an excellent choice for aquascapers who want the bold, lush look of corymbosa in a more contained package.
Light: Low to medium (20–40 PAR); adapts well to most aquarium lighting. CO2: Not required; optional CO2 improves growth speed and leaf size. Fertilisation: Modest regular fertilisation; tolerates nutrient-poor conditions. Placement: Midground to background in medium tanks; excellent as a bold accent plant. Propagation: Cut side shoots 8–12 cm; roots reliably in substrate without special treatment.
