Hygrophila corymbosa 'Siamensis'
Also known as: Siamensis Temple Plant, Thai Temple Plant, Giant Hygrophila
Origin: Thailand
Hygrophila corymbosa 'Siamensis' is the classic Thai form of the Temple Plant, one of the most widely grown aquarium plants in the world. It produces broad, lance-shaped leaves on robust upright stems and adapts to an exceptionally wide range of water conditions, from soft and acidic to hard and alkaline, making it suitable for virtually any freshwater aquarium setup. Growth is fast under moderate to high lighting, and it requires regular trimming to prevent it from shading lower plants. It is a staple background species in community planted tanks and an ideal first stem plant for beginners learning the basics of aquatic plant care and maintenance.
Light: Low to medium (20–40 PAR); thrives under most aquarium lighting conditions. CO2: Not required; optional CO2 increases growth speed and leaf size. Fertilisation: Tolerates lean conditions; moderate regular fertilisation improves appearance. Placement: Background in medium to large tanks; unsuitable for nano aquariums. Propagation: Trim side shoots 10–15 cm; one of the easiest plants to propagate.
