Hygrophila corymbosa 'Siamensis 53B'
Also known as: 53B Temple Plant, Compact Siamensis, Dwarf Siamensis
Origin: Thailand (cultivar)
Hygrophila corymbosa 'Siamensis 53B' is a compact, selected cultivar within the Siamensis lineage, notable for its shorter internodes and somewhat smaller, more densely packed leaves than the standard Siamensis form. This makes it significantly more practical for medium-sized aquariums where the standard Siamensis would outgrow its allotted space within weeks. It retains all the adaptability and easy-care characteristics of the parent form, tolerating a wide range of water parameters without complaint. Growth is moderate to fast, and the plant branches readily after trimming, creating a full and attractive midground to background mass. An excellent choice where a contained yet bold green stem plant is needed.
Light: Low to medium (20–40 PAR); grows reliably across most light levels. CO2: Not required; optional CO2 improves internodal compactness. Fertilisation: Modest regular fertilisation; tolerant of moderate to lean nutrient levels. Placement: Midground to background in medium tanks; good as a contained green mass. Propagation: Trim side shoots 8–12 cm; extremely easy to propagate by cuttings.
