Hygrophila corymbosa
Also known as: Temple Plant, Giant Hygro, Starhorn
Origin: Southeast Asia
Hygrophila corymbosa is widely distributed across Southeast Asia and has been in the aquarium hobby for decades. It forms robust, upright stems with large, bright to mid-green leaves that can span up to 10 cm in length, giving it a commanding presence in the background. Despite its size, it is extremely easy to grow and thrives under low to medium light without CO2 injection. Multiple varieties exist including the popular 'Siamensis' and 'Kompakt' forms, offering different leaf sizes and growth habits.
Light: Low to medium (15–50 PAR); adapts to a wide lighting range without issue. CO2: Not required; grows robustly in low-tech aquariums without supplementation. Fertiliser: Weekly balanced liquid fertiliser; appreciates iron and trace element supplements. Planting: Background groups of 3–5 stems spaced 5 cm apart; trim every 2–3 weeks. Growth: Fast; 30–60 cm; one of the largest-leaved easy stem plants available.
