Hygrophila lancea 'Araguaia'
Also known as: Araguaia Hygrophila, Brazilian Willow Hygrophila
Origin: Brazil (Araguaia)
Hygrophila lancea 'Araguaia' is a rarely encountered collection form from the Araguaia river basin in central Brazil, named after the river system where it was originally collected. It produces slender, willow-like leaves on gracefully arching stems that develop a soft pink blush under good lighting and adequate nutrition. This form grows at a moderate pace and is more compact than some other large Hygrophila species, making it suitable for medium to large planted aquariums. In the aquascape it offers an unusual combination of fine-textured leaves with subtle colour, standing out as a botanical rarity in collections that typically feature more common Hygrophila forms.
Light: Medium to high (35–50 PAR); pink colouration requires good light intensity. CO2: Beneficial at 15–25 mg/L; improves leaf quality and stem compactness. Fertilisation: Regular comprehensive dosing; moderate iron requirement. Placement: Midground to background; striking as a specimen grouping. Propagation: Cut 10 cm top sections; plant cuttings in groups for natural appearance.
