Hygrophila odora
Origin: South Asia, Southeast Asia
Hygrophila odora is a somewhat uncommon and less frequently stocked member of the Hygrophila genus from South and Southeast Asia, distinguished by its broad, medium-green leaves with a slightly silvery sheen growing in dense whorls along upright stems with a characteristically soft, hairy texture. The species name refers to a faint aromatic quality to the leaves and stem when above water. Like its more common Hygrophila relatives, it is an adaptable, easy grower that tolerates a wide range of conditions without CO2 or high lighting. A gentle, lush background plant suitable for community and lower-tech aquariums.
Plant in the background under medium lighting. Grows readily without CO2 supplementation. Supplement with liquid fertilizer for faster, more vigorous growth. Trim and replant cuttings to maintain fullness. Adaptable to a broad range of temperatures, pH, and water hardness. Suitable for goldfish tanks, community aquariums, and general freshwater setups.
