Hygrophila sp. 'Araguaia'
Also known as: Araguaia Hygrophila, Brazilian Hygrophila
Origin: Brazil
Hygrophila sp. Araguaia is collected from the Araguaia river basin in Brazil, and its narrow, elongated leaves distinguish it from all other Hygrophila species commonly available. Under medium to good light the leaves develop a subtle pinkish flush, adding a soft colour element absent from most green Hygrophilas. It is moderately demanding and does best with CO2 and regular fertilisation. Its rarity and distinctive form make it highly desirable for aquascapers seeking botanical novelty.
Light: Medium (30–60 PAR); higher light enhances the subtle pink leaf colouration. CO2: Beneficial at 15–25 mg/L; improves growth rate and leaf colour quality. Fertiliser: Regular balanced liquid fertiliser with micronutrients; ensure sufficient iron. Planting: Background groups of 3–5 stems spaced 3 cm apart; trim every 2 weeks. Growth: Moderate; 20–40 cm; responds to trimming with lateral branching.
