Hygrophila sp. 'Tiger'
Origin: Southeast Asia
Hygrophila sp. 'Tiger' is a rare and visually dramatic species or cultivar producing broad, lush leaves with bold, contrasting dark striping or mottling against a lighter green background — a patterning strongly reminiscent of tiger stripes that immediately distinguishes it from any other Hygrophila variety. The striking foliage makes it a showcase plant for midground placement in planted displays where its dramatic leaf pattern can be appreciated against more uniformly colored background plants. It is highly sought after by collectors for its unique appearance. Moderate to high lighting and regular fertilization help maintain the most saturated and striking expression of the variegation.
Plant in nutrient-rich substrate in the midground under moderate to high lighting. CO2 is recommended for best growth rate and the most pronounced leaf patterning. Supplement with liquid micronutrients and iron for optimal coloration. Trim and replant cuttings to propagate. More demanding than standard Hygrophila species but still within reach of intermediate planted tank hobbyists.
