Taxiphyllum barbieri
Origin: Southeast Asia
Java Moss (Taxiphyllum barbieri) sold as a loose portion is the most universally available aquarium moss in the hobby. It can be tied to any surface or left free-floating, creating intricate green carpets on driftwood and rocks. It provides invaluable shelter for shrimp and fry and is stocked year-round in every Belgian and Dutch aquarium shop as a fundamental aquarium plant.
Divide into small portions and secure to driftwood, rocks, or mesh grids with thread or gel glue. Can float freely in the water column. Grows best with moderate light and liquid fertilizers, but tolerates neglect well. Trim periodically to maintain shape and light penetration. No CO2 required.
