Lagenandra lancifolia
Also known as: Lance Lagenandra, Narrow-leaf Lagenandra
Origin: South India, Sri Lanka
Lagenandra lancifolia is a slender and relatively compact species from South India and Sri Lanka. It produces narrow, lance-shaped leaves in medium green, held on moderate-length petioles from a creeping rhizome. Its modest size distinguishes it from larger Lagenandra species and makes it more suitable for mid-sized aquariums and paludariums. It grows at a steady pace and is reasonably tolerant of varied water conditions within the soft to moderately hard range. Like most Lagenandra, it can be grown fully submerged or in emersed culture, making it versatile for both aquarium and paludarium use. An understated but charming species for collectors.
Light: Low to moderate; shade-tolerant, reflecting its forest stream origin. CO2: Not required; grows reliably without CO2 injection. Fertilisation: Moderate feeding via root tabs and occasional liquid fertiliser. Placement: Midground in paludariums or aquariums; groups of 3–5 plants work well. Propagation: Rhizome offsets; carefully separate and replant with intact roots.
