Lagenandra meeboldii
Also known as: Red Lagenandra, Meeboldii Red
Origin: South India
Lagenandra meeboldii 'Red' is a selected colour form of the Indian species L. meeboldii, remarkable for its intense deep red to burgundy leaf colouration and heavily corrugated or bullated leaf surface. Like Cryptocoryne species it is a rhizome plant that attaches readily to hardscape or grows in substrate, and prefers stable, mature aquarium conditions. Under good light and nutrient provision the red colouration is extraordinary, rivalling even the most intensely pigmented stem plants while requiring far less effort to maintain.
Light: Low to medium; red pigmentation most vivid under medium, warm-spectrum light. CO2: Beneficial; CO2 supplementation intensifies red colouration and promotes growth. Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs; iron supplementation deepens red tones. Planting: Expose rhizome crown; can be attached to hardscape or planted in substrate. Growth: Slow; stable once established — avoid moving the rhizome to prevent stress.
