Lagenandra praetermissa
Also known as: Praetermissa Lagenandra, Overlooked Lagenandra
Origin: India, Sri Lanka
Lagenandra praetermissa is a rare species found in India and Sri Lanka that has only recently begun to circulate in the specialist aquarium plant hobby. Its name means 'overlooked' or 'neglected' in Latin — a reference to its historical under-documentation despite being a genuinely attractive species. It produces broad, glossy dark green leaves forming a compact rosette, sharing the general robustness of the Lagenandra genus but requiring more stable, mature aquarium conditions to truly thrive.
Light: Low; tolerates deep shade conditions well. CO2: Beneficial; supports steady growth and maintains leaf gloss. Substrate: Fine, nutrient-rich substrate with root tabs every 3 months. Planting: Expose rhizome crown; allow 15 cm space; best as a collector's specimen plant. Growth: Slow; like Cryptocoryne, may melt on introduction then rapidly recover.
