Lagenandra thwaitesii
Also known as: Thwaites' Lagenandra, Thwaitesii Lagenandra
Origin: Sri Lanka
Lagenandra thwaitesii is native to Sri Lanka and is named after the botanical explorer Thwaites who catalogued much of Sri Lanka's flora. Its lance-shaped leaves are dark green and moderately textured, forming a tidy rosette that is smaller and more manageable than L. ovata. It adapts well to a wide range of aquarium conditions and is among the easier Lagenandra species to cultivate successfully, tolerating variable water hardness and lighting conditions with good resilience.
Light: Low to medium; adapts well to typical community tank lighting. CO2: Not required; grows steadily in low-tech environments without injection. Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs every 3 months; moderate root feeder. Planting: Expose rhizome crown; space 15 cm apart; suitable for mid-to-background positions. Growth: Slow; reliable and long-lived — one of the more beginner-accessible Lagenandra species.
