Limnophila aquatica
Also known as: Giant Ambulia, Largeleaf Ambulia
Origin: India / Sri Lanka
Limnophila aquatica is native to India and Sri Lanka and is the largest commonly cultivated Limnophila species in the hobby. Its whorled leaves are broader than L. sessiliflora and arranged in more widely spaced, open whorls that give it a particularly lush, tropical appearance. It grows quickly under medium light and is moderately tolerant of water conditions, though it prefers soft to moderately hard water for optimal growth. It is best suited to larger aquariums where it can express its full stature.
Light: Medium (30–60 PAR); grows steadily without CO2 under medium light. CO2: Beneficial at 15–25 mg/L; accelerates growth and improves leaf density. Fertiliser: Weekly balanced liquid fertiliser; ensure sufficient potassium and trace elements. Planting: Background groups of 3–5 stems spaced 4–5 cm apart; trim every 2 weeks. Growth: Fast; 30–60 cm; best suited to aquariums of 100 L or more.
