Limnophila aromaticoides
Also known as: Fragrant Ambulia, Fine Aromatica
Origin: Southeast Asia
Limnophila aromaticoides is a close relative of the popular L. aromatica, sharing its characteristic aromatic fragrance and whorled leaf arrangement but producing slightly finer, more delicate leaf texture and a somewhat more compact growth habit. This makes it well-suited to medium-sized planted aquariums where the more vigorous L. aromatica might become difficult to manage. It performs best under medium to high lighting with optional CO2 supplementation and adapts well to tropical water parameters. In the aquascape it provides a fine-textured, green to pink-tinged background mass with a pleasant herbaceous quality. It is relatively uncommon in the trade, making it a worthwhile addition to diverse plant collections.
Light: Medium to high (35–50 PAR); pink tones in new growth develop under stronger light. CO2: Beneficial at 15–25 mg/L; improves leaf quality and internodal compactness. Fertilisation: Regular comprehensive fertilisation; moderate nutrient demands. Placement: Background in medium planted aquariums; effective as a fragrant background filler. Propagation: Cut 10 cm tops; roots quickly and establishes reliably.
