Limnophila sessiliflora
Also known as: Ambulia, Asian Marshweed, Ambulia Limnophila
Origin: Asia / Australia
Limnophila sessiliflora is widespread across tropical Asia and Australia and has been cultivated in aquariums for generations. Its delicate, pale-green whorled leaves are arranged in dense, feathery clusters along erect stems that quickly reach the water surface. Unlike Cabomba, it tolerates harder water and lower CO2, making it far easier to maintain in typical community aquariums. Its rapid growth makes it excellent for nutrient export and establishing a new planted tank.
Light: Medium (25–60 PAR); adapts well to a range of light intensities. CO2: Not required; optional CO2 at 10–20 mg/L accelerates growth noticeably. Fertiliser: Weekly balanced liquid fertiliser sufficient; fast growth requires adequate nutrients. Planting: Background groups of 3–7 stems spaced 3 cm apart; trim every 1–2 weeks. Growth: Fast; 20–50 cm; one of the fastest-growing feathery plants for low-tech tanks.
