Ludwigia perennis
Also known as: Perennial Ludwigia, Pink Stem Ludwigia
Origin: South / Southeast Asia
Ludwigia perennis is a delicate, fine-stemmed species distributed across South and Southeast Asia that offers a softer approach to Ludwigia colouration. Its small, oval leaves transition from bright green to a soft blush pink as light intensity increases, providing subtle warm tones that work beautifully in planted aquariums where a more restrained colour palette is desired. It is less demanding than many coloured Ludwigia species, adapting to medium light without CO2 injection, though supplementation improves compactness and colour expression. The slender stems and small leaves give it a refined, delicate quality suited to nano tanks and detailed midground plantings.
Light: Medium (30–45 PAR); pink tones develop under moderate to good lighting. CO2: Beneficial at 15–20 mg/L; optional but improves colour and compactness. Fertilisation: Moderate regular fertilisation; low iron requirement compared to red species. Placement: Midground in nano to medium tanks; excellent soft colour accent. Propagation: Cut 6–10 cm tips; roots readily under most conditions.
