Ludwigia sp. 'Dark Orange'
Also known as: Dark Orange Ludwigia, Orange Ludwigia
Origin: Unknown (cultivar)
Ludwigia sp. 'Dark Orange' is an unidentified cultivar or natural collection form that has circulated in the aquarium hobby for its remarkably consistent deep orange colouration across both leaf surfaces, even under varying light intensities. Unlike many coloured Ludwigia species that require very high light to express warm tones, this form holds its orange hue reliably under moderate to high light when adequate iron and micronutrients are supplied. It grows at a moderate pace with compact internodes, making it suitable for midground use in Dutch aquascapes where consistent colour columns are desirable. An excellent choice for aquascapers seeking orange as a primary accent colour.
Light: Moderate to high (35–55 PAR); deep orange maintained under moderate light with good nutrition. CO2: Beneficial at 15–25 mg/L; improves growth rate and colour saturation. Fertilisation: High iron dosing critical; comprehensive weekly fertilisation recommended. Placement: Midground to background; effective in tight groups of 5–9 stems. Propagation: Trim 8–10 cm tip cuttings; replant directly into substrate.
