Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea'
Also known as: Golden Creeping Jenny, Aurea Moneywort, Yellow Creeping Jenny
Origin: Europe
Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' is a golden-leaved cultivar of the European Creeping Jenny, selected for its consistently bright yellow-green foliage. In aquariums it performs best in cooler water, where it retains its distinctive golden colour and creeping habit. It requires no CO2 injection and adapts to a wide range of water parameters, making it a genuinely low-maintenance addition to unheated and subtropical tanks. Its round, coin-like leaves and warm colour offer a pleasing contrast to green and red aquarium plants.
Light: Medium (25–55 PAR); golden colour maintained under medium to bright light. CO2: Not required; adapts well to low-tech conditions without supplementation. Fertiliser: Light weekly balanced fertiliser; low nutrient demands; prefers cool, clear water. Planting: Midground groups of 5–7 stems spaced 3 cm; trim every 3–4 weeks. Growth: Moderate; 10–30 cm; cooler water (18–24°C) is important for best colour retention.
