Marsilea angustifolia
Also known as: Narrow-Leaf Clover Fern, Slender Water Clover
Origin: Australia
Marsilea angustifolia is distinguished from other aquarium water clovers by its slender, narrow two-lobed fronds which give a lighter, more delicate carpet texture than species with broader four-lobed leaves. The tissue culture form eliminates pests and ensures vigorous establishment. It spreads via creeping rhizomes and can cover a foreground area within a few weeks under good conditions. Best results are obtained in fine-grain substrate such as aquasoil or sand where the rhizomes can travel freely. Light requirements are moderate, and it can be grown without CO2 supplementation, making it accessible to low-tech aquarists. Its subtle appearance works well in biotope layouts evoking shallow tropical streams.
Light: Medium CO2: Not required; beneficial at medium–high light Fertilisation: Light liquid dosing; nutrient substrate helpful Placement: Foreground carpet Propagation: Rhizomes spread naturally; divide clumps for faster area coverage
