Marsilea hirsuta
Origin: Australia
Marsilea hirsuta is a semi-aquatic fern that produces attractive four-leaf clover-shaped leaves as a foreground carpet. Unlike Monte Carlo or DHC which require CO2, Marsilea hirsuta can form a reasonable carpet in low-tech setups with adequate lighting. It grows to 5 cm submersed.
Low to moderate light. CO2 improves growth significantly but carpet can form without it. Plant individual runners 2–3 cm apart. Growth is slow but once established, it spreads through runners across the substrate. Compatible with shrimp and nano fish. No special water parameters required.
