Marsilea hirsuta
Origin: Australia
Marsilea hirsuta is a small aquatic fern from Australia that grows as a delicate four-leaf clover carpet. Uniquely, it is one of the few carpet plants that can thrive in low-tech setups without pressurised CO2 — it grows slowly but steadily. Under brighter light and CO2 it fills in faster. Perfect for nature aquascapes wanting a clover-lawn foreground. Tissue cultured (TC) — pest, algae, and snail-free. The TC cup contains enough plants to carpet a 20×20 cm area.
Remove from TC cup, rinse gel, separate into small clumps of 2–3 plantlets. Plant 1–2 cm apart in fine substrate. Low to medium light sufficient for slow growth. Higher light and CO2 accelerates spread. Fertilise substrate with root tabs. Very forgiving — one of the easiest carpet plants.
