Micranthemum sp.
Also known as: Callicarpus Pearl Weed, Tiny Sphere Micranthemum
Origin: Americas (exact origin uncertain)
Micranthemum sp. 'Callicarpus' is a rare tissue culture selection characterised by exceptionally tiny, nearly spherical leaves on very fine stems, producing a carpet of remarkable delicacy and refinement. The minute leaf size creates an optical illusion of scale when photographed, making layouts appear much larger than they are — a quality highly valued in Iwagumi and Nature Aquarium compositions. Despite its delicate appearance it is not especially difficult to keep; moderate to high light and CO2 are recommended for best carpet growth. The tissue culture form ensures a clean establishment. This plant is best appreciated in nano and pico aquariums where its diminutive scale can be fully showcased alongside small hardscape elements.
Light: Medium–high CO2: Recommended Fertilisation: Regular liquid macro and micro dosing Placement: Foreground carpet or midground Propagation: Divide tissue culture plug into sections 1–2 cm across; runners spread naturally
