Micranthemum sp. 'Shrimp Grass'
Also known as: Shrimp Grass, Shrimp Micranthemum
Origin: Southeast Asia
Micranthemum sp. 'Shrimp Grass' is a small-leaved variant from Southeast Asia whose dense, low-growing mat of bright green leaves makes it a dual-purpose plant: visually effective as a foreground accent and functionally excellent as a biofilm-hosting shrimp habitat. Its slightly larger leaves compared to MC (Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo') give it a subtly different texture while maintaining a compact height. It grows at a moderate pace and is more forgiving of parameter variation than Hemianthus callitrichoides (HC Cuba), making it a popular choice for shrimp-focused planted tanks.
Light: Medium; 35–60 PAR for healthy mat formation. CO2: Beneficial; 15–25 ppm accelerates spread and keeps the mat tight. Water: pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Planting: Divide tissue culture portions and plant 2–3 cm apart in foreground substrate. Growth: Moderate; trim occasionally to maintain even height; spreads by runners.
