Bolbitis heteroclita
Also known as: Mini Bolbitis, Difformis Bolbitis
Origin: Southeast Asia
Mini Bolbitis (Bolbitis heteroclita) is a smaller relative of the African Water Fern, native to Southeast Asian streams where it grows attached to submerged wood and rocks. Its leaves are irregularly lobed with a textured surface, creating a more casual, natural aesthetic compared to the formal elegance of B. heudelotii. It is slightly more forgiving in terms of water parameters and can grow without CO2 in a low-light setup.
Light: low light sufficient; medium light with CO2 produces denser, more vigorous growth. CO2: beneficial; improves growth rate and leaf quality noticeably. Attachment: secure rhizome to driftwood with thread or superglue gel; avoid substrate burial. Trimming: prune old fronds at the rhizome base; remove any fronds showing yellowing. Growth: slow; propagate by rhizome division.
