Murdannia keisak
Also known as: Asian Spiderwort, Keisak Murdannia
Origin: East Asia
Murdannia keisak is a semi-aquatic member of the spiderwort family found in rice paddies, wetland margins, and shallow streams across East Asia. Its narrow, lance-shaped leaves can develop attractive pink to orange-bronze colouration under high light and with adequate iron, adding a subdued warm tone to planted layouts. It is a relatively uncommon aquarium plant, more popular in Japanese aquascaping where biotope-style plantings are valued. It blooms small, three-petalled pink flowers when grown emersed, adding paludarium interest.
Light: Medium to high; 45–70 PAR for pink-orange pigmentation. CO2: Beneficial; 15–25 ppm for compact growth and enhanced colour. Water: pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Planting: Plant groups of 5–7 stems in the midground; anchor in fine substrate. Growth: Moderate; trim tops every 3–4 weeks; supplement iron for best colouration.
