Myriophyllum pinnatum
Also known as: Green Foxtail, Cutleaf Watermilfoil
Origin: North America
Myriophyllum pinnatum is a North American species that tolerates a wider range of water conditions than many other Myriophyllum species. Its pinnate leaves are bright to mid-green and arranged in whorls along sturdy stems that grow rapidly, making it an excellent nutrient export plant and a natural-looking background filler. It is one of the more adaptable Myriophyllum species for low-tech aquariums, requiring no CO2 injection and tolerating some water hardness.
Light: Medium (25–60 PAR); grows well without CO2 under medium light. CO2: Not required; optional CO2 improves growth speed and leaf density. Fertiliser: Weekly balanced liquid fertiliser; adequate potassium maintains green colour. Planting: Background groups of 3–5 stems spaced 3 cm apart; trim every 2 weeks. Growth: Fast; 20–60 cm; one of the easiest Myriophyllum species to maintain.
