Neoregelia 'Punctatissima'
Also known as: Spotted Neoregelia, Punctatissima Bromeliad
Origin: Brazil (cultivar)
Neoregelia 'Punctatissima' is a medium-sized tank bromeliad recognised by its bold, high-contrast spotting across its stiff, arching leaves. The spots range from cream to dark burgundy depending on light intensity, and the central cup flushes pink to red as the plant approaches flowering. It is a robust cultivar that tolerates a wider range of light levels than many neoregelias, making it accessible to paludarium keepers of all experience levels.
Like all neoregelias, 'Punctatissima' relies primarily on its central cup for nutrient and water uptake. Regular misting and a dilute foliar or cup fertiliser regime keeps the plant in peak condition. It grows well alongside dart frogs, geckos, and other vivarium inhabitants, providing both aesthetic appeal and functional microhabitat.
Light: Medium to bright indirect; 1,500–3,500 lux; spotting intensifies under brighter conditions. CO2/Humidity: No CO2 required; maintain humidity at 65–85% for healthy growth. Fertilisation: Feed dilute bromeliad fertiliser into the central cup monthly; flush cup every 4–6 weeks. Placement: Plant in well-draining bromeliad mix or mount on cork bark in the terrestrial zone of the paludarium. Propagation: Separate basal pups once they are at least one-third the parent's size and establish individually.
