Nesaea pedicellata
Also known as: Golden Nesaea, African Nesaea
Origin: Africa
Nesaea pedicellata is native to tropical Africa and is highly prized by Dutch aquascape enthusiasts for its exceptional warm colouration. The whorled, lance-shaped leaves progress from bright yellow-green at the base to vivid orange or orange-red at the growing tips under strong light, creating a gradient of warm hues along each stem. It is moderately demanding, requiring consistent high light, CO2, and iron-rich fertilisation to sustain its remarkable colour. Well-grown specimens are among the most visually arresting aquarium plants available.
Light: High (70–100 PAR); essential for full golden-orange colouration. CO2: Required at 25–35 mg/L; without CO2 internodes elongate and colour fades to green. Fertiliser: Elevated iron and potassium; comprehensive micronutrient programme is essential. Planting: Background groups of 3–5 stems spaced 3 cm; trim every 2 weeks. Growth: Moderate; 20–50 cm; whorled leaves create a distinctive visual rhythm.
