Nuphar japonica
Origin: Japan
Nuphar japonica, the Japanese Spatterdock, is a rhizomatous aquatic plant that produces elegant arrow-shaped, light-green submerged leaves and broad, classic lily-pad floating leaves in shallower water conditions. It adds a striking natural pond-like character to large aquariums and serves as an excellent background or centerpiece plant. Available as a pot in quality Belgian and Dutch aquarium shops, it is best suited for experienced aquarists seeking an unusual, bold architectural plant.
Plant the rhizome in nutrient-rich substrate without burying the growing tip. Provide medium to bright light. CO2 is not required but improves growth. Keep water temperature below 24°C for best long-term health; tolerates warmer water short-term. Remove yellow leaves to maintain plant health.
