Nymphaea 'Albert Greenberg'
Also known as: Albert Greenberg Water Lily, Albert Greenberg
Origin: Cultivar (tropical hybrid — USA)
Nymphaea 'Albert Greenberg' is a tropical day-blooming cultivar of exceptional ornamental quality, producing large, multi-petalled flowers in a spectacular blend of warm tones — the outer petals are soft yellow flushing to apricot, while inner petals grade through salmon to vivid pink and orange. The overall effect is lavish and multi-toned, unlike almost any other cultivar. The floating pads are large, rounded, and attractively mottled.
This is a vigorous tropical cultivar requiring warm water (24°C minimum) and strong sunlight to reach its full potential. It grows rapidly in optimal conditions and produces flowers abundantly over a long season. In temperate climates it is best treated as a warm-season annual or overwintered in a heated greenhouse or aquarium. It is not cold-hardy and should be moved indoors well before temperatures drop.
For the tropical water garden enthusiast seeking the most flamboyant and show-stopping cultivar available, 'Albert Greenberg' is a perennial favourite at aquatic plant shows and consistently draws the highest admiration.
Light: Full sun mandatory — 8+ hours of direct or equivalent artificial light for peak flowering. CO2: Beneficial for faster foliar growth in indoor setups. Fertilisation: Very rich growing medium; aquatic fertiliser tabs every 4 weeks during active growth. Placement: Large heated pond or warm tub at 30–80 cm depth; minimum 200 L water volume. Propagation: Side tubers from rhizome in spring; replant in fresh, rich aquatic compost.
