Nymphaea 'Denver'
Also known as: Denver Water Lily, Denver Tropical Lily
Origin: Cultivar (tropical hybrid — USA)
Nymphaea 'Denver' is a tropical day-blooming water lily cultivar celebrated for its extraordinary floriferousness — under good conditions a single established plant can produce 5–10 flowers simultaneously across a long growing season. The blooms are vivid deep pink to magenta with prominent yellow stamens, creating a bold and colourful display. The floating pads are broad, rounded, and attractive in their own right.
As a tropical cultivar, 'Denver' requires warm water (minimum 22°C) and consistent warmth to perform at its best. It is ideal for heated ponds and large tub water gardens in warm climates, or for warm-season outdoor cultivation followed by indoor overwintering in cooler regions. It grows vigorously under full sun and benefits from a rich growing medium with generous fertilisation.
For tropical water garden enthusiasts who measure success by flower count, 'Denver' consistently ranks among the highest-performing pink-flowered cultivars and is a reliable, showy choice for any warm-water pond.
Light: Full sun — flowering performance is directly proportional to light intensity and duration. CO2: Not required outdoors; beneficial in indoor heated setups. Fertilisation: Rich aquatic growing medium; fertiliser tabs every 4–6 weeks during peak growing season. Placement: Heated pond or large tub at 30–80 cm depth; warm water 22–30°C essential. Propagation: Side tubers from rhizome; also propagated from viviparous plantlets if produced.
