Nymphaea 'Froebeli'
Origin: Germany (Froebel, 1898)
Nymphaea 'Froebeli' is one of the best compact red water lilies for smaller ponds and half-barrel water features, producing blood-red, star-shaped flowers with orange stamens over attractively purplish-green pads. Introduced in Germany in 1898, it remains consistently popular in Dutch garden centres as a reliable, free-flowering variety for confined water features. Its shallow water tolerance (from 20 cm depth) makes it accessible for the widest range of pond sizes.
Suitable for water depths as shallow as 20 cm, making it ideal for tub ponds. Plant in full sun in aquatic loam. Feed with slow-release aquatic fertilizer tablets monthly. Overwinter by submerging deeper in the pond or storing frost-free in damp compost.
