About

Nymphaea 'Joey Tomocik' was bred by Perry Slocum and is widely regarded as the best yellow-flowered hardy water lily cultivar in existence. The flowers are a brilliant, saturated canary-yellow — brighter and cleaner in colour than older Marliac yellows — with a full, multi-petalled form and prominent golden stamens. The floating pads are themselves highly decorative, marbled with attractive olive-green and purplish-brown blotching that contrasts beautifully with the vivid flowers.

The plant is of medium vigour, suitable for small to medium ponds, and is fully cold-hardy. It flowers prolifically from late spring through early autumn and the blooms hold their colour particularly well in warm weather. It has received numerous awards and accolades from water lily societies and is frequently cited as a must-have cultivar for any serious collection.

For yellow water lilies, 'Joey Tomocik' sets the standard — its colour is simply superior to almost all alternatives in its hardy class.

Care Guide

Light: Full sun for best colour expression and prolific flowering. CO2: Not required. Fertilisation: Aquatic fertiliser tabs in a medium-sized planting basket at the start of each season. Placement: Small to medium ponds at 30–70 cm depth. Propagation: Divide rhizome every 3–4 years in spring; take leading growing tip sections.
