Nymphaea lotus Orange

The orange form of Nymphaea lotus is a trade-selected color variant producing leaves in warm tones ranging from bronze to copper-orange, overlaid with the characteristic darker mottling of the species. The coloration is particularly vivid on young emerging leaves and deepens with age, creating a dynamic gradient of warm tones across the rosette. Like all Nymphaea lotus varieties, it is vigorous and forgiving, thriving in a broad range of water conditions.

This color variant is best appreciated under medium-high lighting, which intensifies the orange and bronze tones. It pairs well with green and red stem plants in the background, providing a warm midground anchor. Growth rate is fast under good conditions — regular nutrient replenishment via root tabs ensures sustained, healthy leaf production.

Floating pads should be removed as they appear to maintain the plant's energy in submerged rosette growth. The bulb is best planted shallowly with the growing tip just above the substrate surface.

Light: Medium-high (50–100 PAR); warmest orange tones develop under stronger light. CO2: Beneficial; enhances leaf size and colour saturation. Fertilisation: Root tabs every 8 weeks; weekly liquid iron and trace element supplement. Placement: Midground or background; leave 20 cm radius; remove floating leaves to maintain rosette form. Propagation: Remove and replant daughter bulbs; may also be grown from seed under controlled conditions.
