Nymphaea lotus Red Tiger Lotus

Nymphaea lotus 'Red' — the red tiger lotus — produces spectacular round to heart-shaped leaves in deep red-purple with darker mottling. It is one of the most dramatic aquarium plants and a fast, aggressive grower. Regular pruning of surface leaves is essential or it will shade out all other plants. Under medium to bright lighting it stays compact; with less light it extends long petioles to reach the surface. A compact aquarium bulb plant.

Light: medium-high. Remove surface leaves regularly to keep submerged. Nutrient-rich substrate. Temperature: 22–30°C. Fast grower — plan for regular maintenance. Very impressive when well-managed.
