Nymphaea micrantha
Origin: West Africa
Nymphaea micrantha is a fascinating small African dwarf lily known for its uniquely patterned olive-green and purple-brown mottled leaves and its extraordinary ability to produce viviparous plantlets directly on the leaf surface. These miniature plantlets develop their own roots while still attached to the parent leaf, then drop off and root independently—making it one of the most self-propagating aquarium plants available. Its compact size and rapid propagation make it both productive and fascinating to observe.
Plant the bulb shallowly in nutrient-rich substrate. Provide medium lighting. Remove floating leaves to maintain compact submerged growth and encourage plantlet production. Collect and replant plantlets when they develop visible roots. No CO2 required.
