Nymphaea nouchali var. caerulea
Origin: North and East Africa
Nymphaea nouchali var. caerulea, the Blue Lotus of Egypt, is a historically and culturally significant aquatic plant revered in ancient Egyptian art and religion. Its submerged leaves are attractively spotted and mottled in shades of olive-green and reddish-purple, making it a beautiful decorative plant even before any flowers appear. Growing at a moderate pace, it can be kept compact in the aquarium by routinely removing floating leaves as they form.
Plant bulb shallowly in rich substrate. Provide medium lighting and remove floating leaves regularly to maintain compact aquarium form. Root fertilizer tablets improve growth. Can tolerate a range of water hardness. Warm, stable water produces best results.
