About

Nymphaea 'Sultan' is a Marliac hybrid producing richly coloured, deep scarlet-red to crimson flowers of good size, held on sturdy stems above broad, rounded, dark-green floating pads. The blooms are full and cup-shaped with multiple whorls of petals surrounding a dense cluster of bright golden stamens, creating a jewel-like centrepiece on the water surface. Flowering is prolific from late spring through early autumn under adequate sun.

The plant is of moderate to vigorous growth, suitable for medium ponds but also performing well in larger water features. It is fully cold-hardy through European winters and benefits from annual fertilisation in spring. Established plants build in flowering performance each year until the container becomes root-bound, at which point division restores vigour.

'Sultan' is a dependable, richly coloured red cultivar that consistently delivers excellent results without demanding specialist care.

Care Guide

Light: Full sun required for best flowering and colour saturation. CO2: Not required. Fertilisation: Aquatic fertiliser tabs at planting; supplement mid-season in established containers. Placement: Medium to large ponds at 40–90 cm depth; containerise in a basket of at least 30 cm diameter. Propagation: Divide rhizome in late spring every 3–5 years.
