Nymphoides hydrophylla
Origin: Asia
Nymphoides hydrophylla, the Taiwan Lily or Banana Lily, is a compact aquatic plant that produces large, oval floating leaves on thin stems from a small rhizome. Its surface leaves provide natural shade and cover for shy fish while the plant structure provides mid-water visual interest. Grows quickly under good light and develops small white flowers above the surface. Unlike full-sized water lilies it is manageable in tanks from 60 L. An attractive feature plant for nature aquascapes.
Plant rhizome loosely in substrate (do not bury deeply). Medium to high light. Benefits from root tabs. Temperature 22–28 °C. Floating leaves develop quickly; trim if they shade bottom plants excessively. Suitable for unheated tanks (18 °C+) in summer.
