Nymphoides indica
Also known as: Water Snowflake, Floating Heart, White Snowflake
Origin: Pantropical
Nymphoides indica is a pantropical species found across Africa, Asia, and Australia in ponds, lakes, and slow rivers. In aquariums and garden ponds it forms rounded, lily-pad-like floating leaves and produces attractive, delicately fringed white flowers that open above the water surface. It can also be grown fully submerged, producing smaller, unbranched leaf stems. It is relatively undemanding, tolerating a wide range of water parameters, and provides natural surface cover that reduces algae growth.
Light: Medium (25–50 PAR); grows well under standard aquarium lighting. CO2: Not required; tolerates a wide range of dissolved CO2 levels. Fertiliser: Weekly balanced liquid fertiliser; root tabs in substrate beneficial. Planting: Background anchor in substrate; allow leaf stems to reach surface naturally. Growth: Moderate; 10–30 cm; surface leaves form over 2–4 weeks from planting.
