Peplis diandra
Also known as: European Waterwort, Peplis
Origin: Europe
Peplis diandra (syn. Didiplis diandra) is closely related to the genus Didiplis and is native to shallow wetlands and temporary pools of Europe. In the aquarium it forms low-growing creeping stems bearing pairs of small, rounded green leaves, creating a fine-textured foreground or midground accent. It requires the high light and CO2 conditions common in high-tech competition setups but is otherwise uncomplicated in its nutritional demands. Its rarity in the trade adds collector appeal for aquascapers who seek genuine variety in their plant palette.
Light: High; 65–90 PAR for compact, dense growth. CO2: Required; 25–35 ppm for healthy leaf production and spread. Water: pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Planting: Plant stem clusters 2–3 cm apart in the foreground; allow to spread naturally. Growth: Moderate; trim periodically to maintain neat height and prevent leggy stems.
