Microsorium pteropus 'Philipine'
Also known as: Philippine Java Fern
Origin: Philippines, Southeast Asia
Philippine Java Fern (Microsorium pteropus 'Philipine') is a large, robust cultivar with distinctive deeply ridged and corrugated fronds that stand out dramatically among other Java Fern varieties. Its leaves can reach considerable size, making it best suited to larger aquariums where its bold form can be fully appreciated. The corrugated surface texture catches light in a unique way, producing strong visual interest in the midground.
Light: low to medium light; larger fronds benefit from moderate light for good colour. CO2: not required; a weekly liquid fertiliser dose maintains the deep green colouration. Attachment: secure rhizome firmly to large driftwood or rocks; do not bury the rhizome. Trimming: remove lower, older fronds as the plant matures and grows forward along its rhizome. Growth: slow; propagate by rhizome division.
