Potamogeton crispus
Origin: Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia
Potamogeton crispus (Curly Pondweed) is the aquarium form of this distinctive submerged plant, featuring wavy-edged, translucent olive-green leaves with a crinkled, ruffled texture. Naturally adapted to cool water, it thrives below 22°C, making it an excellent background choice for coldwater tanks, temperate biotopes, and unheated setups. Its undulating foliage sways gracefully in gentle current and provides excellent cover for fish and invertebrates.
Prefers temperatures 10–22°C; deteriorates above 22°C. Medium light; CO2 supplementation helps but is not essential. pH 6.5–8.0, GH 5–20, KH 2–10. Plant in substrate or anchor to rockwork. Tolerant of low fertiliser levels. Best in unheated or lightly heated aquariums alongside goldfish, temperate fish, and cool-water species.
