Ranunculus trichophyllus
Also known as: Thread-Leaf Water Crowfoot, Fine-Leaved Water Crowfoot
Origin: Europe / North America / Asia
Ranunculus trichophyllus, the Thread-Leaf Water Crowfoot, is a widely distributed aquatic buttercup found across Europe, North America, and Asia. Its submerged leaves are highly dissected into fine, thread-like segments that create a floating, cloud-like texture in the water column. The tissue culture form provides a clean, algae-free introduction. This species thrives in cool, clear, well-oxygenated water and is particularly suited to temperate and subtropical aquariums or biotope setups evoking clear alpine streams. Growth is moderate and the plant does not need CO2 injection, though supplementation helps in warmer setups. Trim spent stems to maintain a tidy appearance. Emersed, it produces attractive small white flowers above the water line.
Light: Medium–high CO2: Beneficial; not required in cool setups Fertilisation: Moderate macro and micro liquid dosing Placement: Midground flowing accent Propagation: Stem cuttings; branches freely
