Phyllanthus fluitans
Origin: South America
Phyllanthus fluitans is a stunning South American floating plant whose round leaves turn brilliant red on their upper surface under high light, creating a striking crimson canopy above the water. Its vivid colour and cascading red roots make it one of the most decorative floating plants available, popular in planted tank and biotope setups. Spreads via runners and multiplies readily under good conditions.
Float freely on surface. High light essential for red coloration — leaves remain green in low light. pH 6.0–8.0, GH 2–15, KH 0–8, temperature 22–30°C. No CO2 required. Excellent nitrogen absorber — ideal for nutrient export. Spreads quickly; thin regularly to allow sufficient light to submerged plants. Cover is beneficial for shy surface-dwelling fish.
