Rotala bossii

Rotala bossii is a rare and visually distinctive species from West Africa with broad, rounded leaves displaying vivid red-to-orange undersides visible from multiple viewing angles. Its slower growth rate compared to many Rotala relatives makes it suitable for highly detailed aquascapes where controlled placement is important. A high-tech setup with injected CO2 and comprehensive micro-nutrient dosing is required to achieve the best coloration.

Provide high lighting (>50 PAR) and CO2 injection for best performance. Use a nutrient-rich substrate and supplement with liquid iron. Soft, slightly acidic water (pH 6.0–7.5) is preferred. Grow in areas where the reddish undersides are visible from the front. Trim carefully to maintain shape as growth is slow.
